Cornwall Sustainability Awards open for 2015
Innovative businesses from across all sectors in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly can now apply to enter the 2015 Cornwall Sustainability Awards.
The awards return to celebrate their 13th anniversary after officially launching at the recent Thrive Sustainability conference in Newquay.
There will also be a workshop for guests to attend centered around how to complete your Cornwall Sustainability Awards application.
Veryan Jones, Cornwall Council’s Senior Environment Officer, said: “We’re already getting a lot of interest in this year’s awards which is why we’ve decided to organise this business breakfast workshop.
“It will be a chance for those interested in applying to get together with some of the county’s leading sustainable business leaders and engage in some lively and inspirational conversations – learning application tips and examples of best practice along the way.
“Ultimately the workshops will give people a chance to speak to the judges first hand and see what’s involved in entering and winning an award.”
Gitty Ankers MBE of the Environment Agency, added: “In a time where we’re dominated by persistent economical and resource constraints, a strong environmental strategy makes good business sense.
“These awards have always recognised the importance of achieving a healthy balance of business and sustainability, and I can’t wait to see the talent that 2015 brings.
“It’s great to know that many previous winners have even used them as a springboard to further success, both in terms of national awards and with increased business.”
Companies will be able to compete in 11 categories: Best Managed Business (Small, Medium and Large); Best Contribution Towards to a Sustainable Food Economy; Best Contribution to a Sustainable Energy Economy; Best Contribution to Resource Efficiency; Best Contribution to the Built Environment – New build and retrofit; Best Individual Contribution; and Best Innovator – Tomorrows Contribution to Sustainability.
There is also the Theme of 2015 award, which celebrates the best example of environmental growth.
Since 2002 the Cornwall Sustainability Awards has given trophies to and acknowledged hundreds of Cornish businesses including last year’s overall winner, electric cab company, C&C Taxi’s.
The closing date for entries is Monday, October 19.
Winners will be announced at an evening celebration to take place on Friday, December 4 at the Headland Hotel in Newquay.
Alongside the award ceremony, which will include a dinner and dance, there will be a business breakfast and sustainable conference during the day.
